Halloween Yoga Game Printable: Pose Cards + Calm-Down Rounds
A Calmer Kind of Halloween Party Game
Most Halloween party games are loud, and that is great for about twenty minutes. Then someone needs a breather, and that is where this game comes in. Halloween yoga is a draw-a-card game where players pick a pose card and giggle their way through it. It works as a calm-down break between louder games, a classroom brain break, or the main event for a smaller, quieter party.
You do not need to be flexible, and you do not need any yoga experience. Every pose below is described in plain language, and every one is gentle movement only. Think of it as playful stretching with Halloween names, not a workout and not a lesson. If a pose feels uncomfortable, skip it. If anything hurts, stop right away. That rule matters more than finishing a card, and it is worth saying out loud before you start, especially with kids.
What You Need
The twelve pose cards written out below, copied onto index cards or printed
A small bag, basket, or hat to draw cards from
A clear floor space, big enough for everyone to stretch their arms out
Optional: yoga mats, towels, or a soft rug
Optional: calm background music and dimmed lights for the final round
Optional: a timer or phone timer for holding poses
A pencil and paper if you want to keep score, though scoring is optional
How to Set Up the Game
Write each pose on its own card, or print this page and cut the cards apart. Shuffle them face down in your bag or basket, and clear a space where players can stand without bumping into furniture. Demonstrating each pose once yourself, badly is fine, makes everyone braver about trying.
Decide how many rounds you want first. Three rounds is good for a party, about ten to fifteen minutes total. For the final round, set aside the calm-down poses on purpose, because ending on a slow note is what makes this game feel different.
How to Play: Draw a Card Rounds
Players take turns drawing a card. Read the pose out loud, then everyone tries it together. Hold each pose for a slow count of ten. There is no wrong way here: a wobbly tree is still a tree.
Play just for fun, with no points, which is my favorite way. If your group likes competition, give one point for trying and one bonus point for holding a pose without falling. Passing is always allowed, and the player just draws another card.
Play two or three normal rounds first. For the last round, use only the calm-down cards, with softer voices and slower counts. End with everyone lying on their backs for one quiet minute, if they want to.
Printable: The 12 Halloween Yoga Pose Cards
Copy these twelve cards onto index cards, one card each. Each card is written out in full, so the article itself works as your printable set.
Card 1: Pumpkin Seed Child’s Pose. Kneel, sit back toward your heels, and stretch your arms forward with your forehead down. Curl up small like a seed in a pumpkin.
Card 2: Black Cat Stretch. On hands and knees, slowly round your back up like an arching cat, tuck your chin, then let your belly dip and lift your head. Move slowly back and forth.
Card 3: Witch’s Tree. Stand tall. Lift one foot to the inside of your other ankle or calf, never on the knee. Press your hands together, or stretch arms up like branches. Try the other side.
Card 4: Ghost Float. Stretch both arms high overhead. Rise onto tiptoes if steady, and sway gently like a floating ghost. Lower slowly and shake out your arms.
Card 5: Mummy Wrap Stretch. Hug yourself, arms crossed like mummy bandages. Twist gently left, return to center, then twist right. Keep feet still and movements small.
Card 6: Bat Hang. Feet slightly apart, knees soft, fold forward and let your arms dangle like a hanging bat. Come back up very slowly.
Card 7: Spider Crawl. Sit with knees bent, feet flat, hands behind you. Lift your hips a little and take small steps forward and back like a scuttling spider.
Card 8: Jack-o’-Lantern Squat. Feet wide, toes slightly out. Bend your knees into a wide squat like a big round pumpkin. Hands together, hold for a slow count of ten.
Card 9: Owl Perch. Stand on one foot, lift the other slightly behind you, arms out like owl wings. Look slowly left and right, then switch feet.
Card 10: Skeleton Shake. Shake out your hands, then arms, then legs, one at a time, like a rattling skeleton. Finish with a whole-body wiggle, then stand still.
Card 11: Calm-Down Moon Breath. Sit comfortably, hands on knees. Take three slow breaths in through your nose and out through your mouth. This card is for the final round only.
Card 12: Sleeping Vampire Rest. Lie on your back, arms at your sides. Close your eyes and lie still like a resting vampire for one quiet minute. This card ends the game.
Fun Variations to Try
Try a story round: the leader reads a short spooky story and players do a pose every time they hear a Halloween word. Pumpkin means squat, cat means cat stretch, ghost means ghost float.
Try a freeze version for a livelier group. Play music, and when it stops, the leader calls out a pose card and everyone freezes in that pose. The last person still wobbling gets a round of applause and keeps playing.
Tips and Safety Notes
Keep every movement gentle and slow, and never force a stretch. Stop if anything hurts. This game is not a substitute for real yoga instruction and makes no health claims. Play on a non-slip surface, and skip any pose that feels uncomfortable.
