Halloween Scavenger Hunt for Adults (Printable Game)
Put the kiddie candy run behind you. This Halloween scavenger hunt is built for grown-ups: clever riddles, hilarious photo challenges, and team tasks that turn the whole neighborhood into your game board. Everything below is written out in full, so print this page and play tonight.

How the Hunt Works
Teams and Gear
Split into teams of three to five players. Each team needs one phone with a camera, one printed copy of this hunt, a pen, and a flashlight per person. Pick a punny team name and agree on a home base, like someone’s porch, where everyone meets when time runs out.
Photo Proof Rules
Every photo challenge and task must be proven with a photo or short video taken during the hunt. All team members must appear in each photo unless the challenge says otherwise. No stock photos, no screenshots from the internet. Keep every photo tasteful, and ask permission before photographing strangers or homes up close. One person plays judge: they keep the answer key, award bonus points, and settle disputes.
The 28 Clues
Work through the list in any order. Riddles are worth 10 points, photo challenges 15, tasks 10. The judge may award up to 5 bonus points per photo for outstanding creativity. Riddle answers are in italics for the judge.
Riddle Clues (10 Points Each)
- I guard the porch with a toothy grin, a candle flickering deep within. Answer: a jack-o’-lantern.
- I hang beside the door with pride; ring me once, then step inside — if the porch light glows. Answer: a lit doorbell.
- Black as midnight, soft as sin, I cross your path with whiskered grin. Answer: a black cat, real or decoration.
- Pale and round, I own the night; the werewolf howls when I’m at full height. Answer: the moon.
- I crunch and crackle under shoe in red and gold and brown. Answer: fallen autumn leaves.
- Gray and solemn, still I stand, with words carved by a loving hand. Answer: a tombstone decoration.
- Eight-legged weaver, patient and still, my silver trap hangs by the sill. Answer: a spiderweb.
- I rattle when the cold wind blows, though flesh and skin I never chose. Answer: a skeleton decoration.
- Striped in orange, white, and gold — love me or hate me, here I am. Answer: candy corn.
- I bubble and brew in iron deep; the witch stirs me before she sleeps. Answer: a cauldron or punch bowl.
Photo Challenges (15 Points Each)
- Your whole team does its best zombie walk in front of the spookiest house on the block.
- Recreate a famous horror-movie poster pose using only your team and one flashlight.
- Jump shot: every member caught “floating” in midair before a glowing jack-o’-lantern.
- Team selfie with a costumed stranger — permission first, compliment required.
- Spell “BOO” with your bodies on a lawn, shot from a porch or safe distance.
- Pose like you’re being chased by the biggest inflatable decoration around.
- Coven circle: the team rings up, flashlights under chins, spookiest faces on.
- Toast photo: everyone raising mugs of cider, cocoa, or cocktails by a fire pit.
- Haunt a porch as classic sheet ghosts — bring a sheet and commit.
- Freeze-frame a scream: every member mid-scream at a decoration that truly startled someone.
Team Tasks (10 Points Each)
- Knock on a decorated house, praise the display, and get a thumbs-up photo — permission first.
- Find a house giving out full-size candy bars; write down the street name.
- Each member grabs one pinecone; build a tiny “haunted forest” on a porch step and photograph it.
- Leave a kind chalk message, like “Happy Halloween!”, on a sidewalk.
- Find three pumpkins — one carved, one painted, one mini — and list the house numbers.
- Do a thirty-second monster-mash dance before a decorated yard. Film it.
- Find the decoration that made your team laugh hardest; describe it to the judge in one sentence.
- Trade one piece of candy with another team and photograph the swap.

Scoring System
At the finish line the judge tallies it up: 10 points per riddle, 15 per photo challenge, 10 per task, plus up to 5 creativity bonus points per photo. Highest total wins. Tie? Sudden death: each tied team performs a thirty-second scary story, and the judge picks the winner.
Time Limit
You get 90 minutes from the judge’s starting call. Be back at home base before time expires — every five minutes late costs 5 points.
Prize Ideas
- A gold spray-painted mini pumpkin trophy for the winning team.
- Mini bottles of fancy liqueur or gourmet hot chocolate kits.
- Scented Halloween candles: pumpkin, bonfire, or apple cider.
- Full-size candy bars — the true currency of Halloween night.
Neighborhood Safety and Etiquette
- Stay on sidewalks, cross at corners, and wear reflective gear or glow bracelets.
- Never enter a yard uninvited, and never touch anyone’s decorations.
- Porch light off means no visitors — skip that house.
- Keep voices down after 10 p.m.
- Stick together, carry flashlights, and watch for uneven sidewalks.
- Ask permission before photographing people or homes up close.
How to Print This Hunt
- Print one copy per team; black and white works fine.
- Check print preview so all 28 clues fit on two pages.
- The judge keeps a copy with the answers to score at the finish.
