New Year’s Bingo Printable: Cards, Calling Cards & How to Play

Bingo is the New Year’s Eve game that needs no explanation. Everyone has played it, everyone knows the rules, and it works for a five-year-old and a grandmother at the same table. A printable New Year’s bingo set turns that familiar game into a party centerpiece: cards covered in clocks, confetti, and champagne glasses, a caller pulling words from a bowl, and a room full of people leaning over their cards as the countdown gets closer.

Below is a complete printable-style guide: how the game works, a 24-word calling list, winning patterns, versions for kids and big groups, and printing tips.

How to Play New Year’s Bingo

Give every player a bingo card and a pen or a small pile of markers — coins, dried beans, candy, or star-shaped paper tokens all work. The caller draws one calling card at a time from a bowl and reads it aloud, or holds it up so everyone can see it. Players look for the matching picture or word on their card and cover it. The first player to cover five squares in a row — across, down, or diagonally — shouts “Bingo!” and wins the round. Check the winning card against the called words before handing over the prize, because an excited player will sometimes claim a win one square early.

The center square of every card is a free space, marked with a star. It counts as covered from the start, so every player is always one square closer to a win than they think. That free space is what keeps the game moving and the rounds short — most rounds last five to ten minutes, which is exactly right for a party game.

The 24 Calling Words

Print these twenty-four calling cards, cut them apart, and drop them in a bowl. These are the words and pictures that appear across the bingo cards.

  1. Countdown
  2. Confetti
  3. Fireworks
  4. Midnight
  5. Resolution
  6. Party hat
  7. Champagne
  8. Balloon
  9. Streamer
  10. Noisemaker
  11. Clock
  12. Calendar
  13. Toast
  14. Sparkler
  15. Top hat
  16. Mask
  17. Gold
  18. Silver
  19. 2027
  20. January
  21. Snowflake
  22. Disco ball
  23. Midnight kiss
  24. Celebration

Each bingo card is a five-by-five grid holding twenty-four of these words plus the free star in the center. Because every card shuffles the words into a different order, no two players are chasing the same pattern, and a word that helps one player does nothing for another.

Winning Patterns Beyond Five in a Row

Five in a row is the classic win, but a New Year’s Eve party can play several rounds with different patterns to keep the game fresh. Try four corners — cover the four corner squares first. Try a blackout, where the winner must cover every square on the card; this takes longer, so save it for the last round of the night. Try a frame, where the winner covers every square on the outer edge. Try a letter “N” or a letter “Z” shape across the card, which looks harder than it is and gets a big reaction when someone wins it. Announce the pattern before each round starts, and write it on a small sign the caller holds up, so nobody has to remember it mid-game.

For a fast party, play three short rounds with different patterns and a small prize each time. For a long evening, play one blackout round that runs through the whole night, with players covering squares whenever a word is called during breaks between other games.

New Year’s Bingo for Kids

Children love bingo, and the picture version is the right choice for them: cards with pictures of clocks, party hats, and fireworks instead of words, so even children who cannot read yet can play. Give each child their own card and a pile of candy markers, and let them eat one marker every time they cover a square — it is the best rule in the game, and children will tell you so. Keep the rounds short, call the words slowly, and give every child a prize at the end, not just the winner. For a classroom party, print enough cards for the whole class and play in pairs, so shy children have a partner to help them find the squares.

Bingo for Big Groups and Offices

Bingo scales beautifully. For a party of twenty or more, print at least twelve different cards and hand them out in pairs, so two guests share one card and have to agree on every square — the arguing is half the fun. For an office party, add a rule: the winner must answer a New Year trivia question before claiming the prize, which keeps the game honest and adds a laugh. For a virtual party, send the cards as a PDF before the call, have everyone print their own, and let the host call the words on screen. It works surprisingly well, and it is one of the few party games that survives a video call intact.

Printing Your Bingo Cards

Print the bingo cards on white cardstock, one card per page, so the squares are large enough to cover with a marker. Print the calling cards on a separate sheet and cut them apart, and print the tokens — small stars or circles — on a third sheet if you are not using coins or candy. Print at 100 percent so the cards come out at their intended size, and print a test card first to check the colors. If you are printing for a large group, a local print shop will print a batch on good card for a few dollars, and the result will be sharper than most home printers can manage.

Laminate the cards if you plan to reuse them next year — a laminated card and a dry-erase marker make a set that lasts for many New Year’s Eves. Store the set in a labeled envelope with the calling cards and tokens, and next December you will be ready in five minutes.
