Halloween Mystery Box Feel Game Printable
The mystery box game is Halloween’s greatest sensory prank: players reach into a box they can’t see inside, feel something slimy, and guess what it is — except every “gross” item is secretly something ordinary from your kitchen. Below is the complete printable kit: the item list, the rules card, guess sheets, and the safety notes. Print this page and you’re ready tonight.
Everything here is free. And if you’d like the designed version — matching item cards, guess sheets, and a rules card that look like real Halloween stationery — for the full designed bundle with matching scorecards and game cards, grab it in our Etsy shop: fukroo.etsy.com.
What You Need

- A shoebox or small box with a hand-hole cut in one end, draped with a dark cloth so nobody can peek.
- The “gross” items from the list below — all cheap, all from a grocery store.
- Paper bowls or plates to hold each item inside the box (keeps the box itself clean-ish).
- Baby wipes or a damp towel — non-negotiable. People will want to wash their hands between rounds.
- Printed guess sheets (below) — one per player.
- Optional: a blindfold for extra drama, and a “bravery certificate” for anyone who touches everything.
The Rules Card
HALLOWEEN MYSTERY BOX — OFFICIAL RULES
- The host places ONE item in the box at a time and announces its spooky name: “Inside the box… are EYEBALLS.” Sell it. Be dramatic.
- Each player reaches in, feels the item for up to 10 seconds, and writes their guess on the guess sheet. No peeking, no pulling the item out.
- After everyone has felt it, the host reveals the real item. Correct guess: 2 points. Close-but-wrong (saying “grapes” when it’s peeled grapes): 1 point, host’s call.
- Repeat with the next item. Most points after all items wins.
- The golden rule: nothing in the box can hurt you. The host promises.
The Complete Item List (12 Items, With Spooky Names)
Make these the day of the party — nobody wants day-old spaghetti hands.
1. Eyeballs — Peeled Grapes
Peel a dozen green or red grapes. They feel exactly like eyeballs — the classic for a reason.
2. Brains — Cold Cooked Spaghetti
Cook spaghetti, rinse it cold, and toss with a little oil so it doesn’t stick. A handful feels unmistakably brain-like.
3. Witches’ Fingers — Baby Carrots (in cold water)
Baby carrots in cold water feel weirdly finger-ish, especially the knobbly ones. Press a sliced-almond “fingernail” onto a few with cream cheese for extra effect.
4. Guts / Intestines — Wet Sponge in Warm Water
A big sponge soaked in warm water. Squeeze it before each player — the squelch does half the work.
5. Spider Eggs — Tapioca Pearls or Boba
Cooked tapioca pearls in a little water. Small, round, slippery, deeply unpleasant to the touch. Tell players they’re “fresh” for maximum screaming.
6. Vampire Teeth — Candy Corn (pointy end first)
The points feel sharp and toothy in the dark, and players always guess something worse. A breather round.

7. Mummy Wraps — Toilet Paper (damp)
Damp strips cling to fingers in a way that makes everyone recoil. Dry strips are too obvious — dampness sells it.
8. Witch’s Hair — Corn Silk or Doll Hair
Corn silk piled in a bowl: stringy, tangly, unmistakably hair-like. A cheap dollar-store wig, cut up, works too.
9. Goblin Snot — Slime or Gelatin
School-glue slime, or gelatin made with half the water so it’s extra wobbly. Cold is best. Everyone guesses it; everyone still hates touching it.
10. Bat Wings — Tortillas (damp)
Flour tortillas, lightly dampened and folded. They feel leathery and wing-shaped in a dark box. This one genuinely fools adults.
11. Monster Tongues — Wet Fruit Leather or Damp Sponges (thin)
Dampened fruit-leather strips — or thin damp sponge strips. Long, flat, tongue-textured.
12. The Grand Finale: “Something’s Moving” — A Bowl of Cooked Rice with a Hidden Vibrating Toy
Cooked rice with a small vibrating toy (a cheap electric toothbrush works) buried in it — it buzzes when touched. Announce it as “the nest” and save it for last. Throw the rice out after.

Safety Notes (Actually Read These)
- Allergies first. Ask about food allergies before the game — wheat, fruit, latex (some slime). Skip or swap any risky item; there are twelve, you can afford to drop one.
- Everything in the box must be food-safe or a clean household item: nothing sharp, nothing staining, nothing alive.
- Wash hands before AND after. Before, so the food items stay clean; after, because goblin snot.
- One player at a time at the box. Two hands in a dark box is how fingers get bent. The host stands by the box for every round.
- For toddlers, skip the box — put items in open bowls and narrate. The box is the scary part for little kids, not the spaghetti.
Hosting Tips
- Order matters. Start mild (vampire teeth, mummy wraps) and build to the finale. If you lead with the buzzing rice, everything after feels tame.
- Narrate like a campfire story: dim the lights, flashlight under your chin. The theater is half the game.
- Keep wipes within arm’s reach. Players will want them every single round.
- Photograph faces, not hands — the reactions are gold. Have the camera ready before each round.
Twelve items, one box, and a room full of people shrieking at spaghetti. Print the guess sheets, prep the grapes, and don’t tell anyone what’s in the box until it’s too late.
