Pin the Face on the Pumpkin Game Printable: 12 Face Combos & Rules

Pin the Tail on the Donkey walked so Halloween party games could run. Our pumpkin version — Pin the Face on the Pumpkin — takes the same simple genius (blindfold, spin, stick, laugh) and gives it a jack-o’-lantern twist. The twist here is literal: instead of one tail, players pin an entire face — eyes, nose, and mouth — one piece at a time. The results are gloriously crooked, every single time. Below: the full free printable setup, scoring rules, 12 funny face-piece combos to print, and variations that keep it fresh for repeat rounds.

How Pin the Face on the Pumpkin Works

Tape a big blank pumpkin poster to the wall. Blindfold the first player, give them a face piece with a sticky back, spin them once (twice if they’re brave), point them at the wall, and let go. They stick their piece wherever their hand lands. After everyone has placed one piece, the pumpkin has a complete face — and it is almost never a normal-looking face. That’s the point. Everyone votes on the funniest result, and the group hands out prizes.

What You’ll Need (Printable Checklist)

  • A large pumpkin poster (print ours at poster size, or draw one on orange craft paper — a big oval with a green stem does the job)
  • Printed face pieces: eyes, noses, mouths — cut out before the party
  • Sticky tack, double-sided tape, or reusable adhesive dots on the back of each piece
  • A blindfold (sleep mask, scarf, or party bandana)
  • A marker to write each player’s name on their pieces
  • Painter’s tape to hang the pumpkin on the wall (no wall damage, no drama)

Step-by-Step Setup (5 Minutes)

Step 1 — Hang the pumpkin. Tape your big blank pumpkin at standing eye level on a smooth wall or door. Mark a small “X” on the back of the poster where the ideal face center would be — that’s your secret scoring target.

Step 2 — Cut the face pieces. Print the face-piece sheet and cut out the eyes, noses, and mouths. Put a small loop of tape or a dot of sticky tack on the back of each. Write each player’s name on the back of their three pieces in marker so you know whose crooked eye is whose.

Step 3 — Blindfold and spin. First player stands about 8 feet from the wall, gets blindfolded, and gets spun once clockwise. Hand them their eye piece. They walk forward, reach out, and stick it somewhere.

Step 4 — Repeat for nose and mouth. Same player gets the nose, then the mouth. Then the next player goes. Play one piece per turn or all three at once — your call.

Step 5 — Reveal and judge. When every face piece is up, everyone steps back, removes blindfolds, and laughs. Then you vote.

Printable: 12 Face-Piece Combos

Print the piece sheet and cut along the lines. Each combo is one full face (2 eyes + nose + mouth). Mix and match across combos for maximum weirdness.

  1. Sleepy Sam: two droopy half-closed eyes, a tiny triangle nose, a small straight-line mouth.
  2. Screamer: two wide round eyes, a round O nose, a huge open scream mouth.
  3. Smug: two narrow sideways-glancing eyes, a long pointed nose, a crooked smirk mouth.
  4. Toothy: two square eyes, a round nose, a wide grin with one big square tooth.
  5. Witchy: two arched mean eyes, a hooked witch nose, a thin frowning mouth.
  6. Derpy: one big eye and one tiny eye, a lopsided nose, a zigzag mouth.
  7. Vampire: two slanted red eyes, a sharp nose, a mouth with two fang triangles.
  8. Ghost Buddy: two soft oval eyes, no nose (a blank piece), a small wavy mouth.
  9. Zombie: two X-shaped eyes, a crooked nose, a stitched-line mouth.
  10. Cat: two cat-slit eyes, a small triangle nose, a mouth with whisker lines.
  11. Mummy: two eyes peeking through bandage slits, a wrapped nose, a bandaged mouth.
  12. Monster Mash: three eyes (yes, three), a blob nose, a jagged lightning mouth.

How to Score (Pick Your Style)

Accuracy scoring

Closest piece to its ideal spot wins. Measure with a ruler after the reveal — the player whose eye lands nearest the marked target gets a point. Most points across all three pieces wins.

Comedy scoring (my favorite)

Forget accuracy. The group votes on categories: Funniest Face, Scariest Face, Most Likely to Haunt a Porch, and Best Disaster. Every player can win something, and the photos are gold.

Team relay scoring

Split into teams. Each team member places one piece, blindfolded, with their team shouting directions (“left! no, your other left!”). Fastest finished face wins — accuracy optional, yelling encouraged.

5 Variations That Keep It Going

1. Speed round. Fifteen seconds per piece. No second-guessing, no slow approaches. Chaos guaranteed.

2. Wrong-hand round. Players must place pieces with their non-dominant hand. Results get gloriously worse.

3. Silent director. One teammate guides the blindfolded player with words only — no touching, no pointing. Great for team-building rounds at office parties.

4. Rotating pumpkin. A helper slowly rotates the poster between turns. Placement becomes pure luck.

5. Glow round. Play with the lights dimmed and glow-stick tape marking the pumpkin outline. Spooky, dramatic, and the photos look amazing.

Tips for Different Ages

For little kids (4–6), skip the blindfold spin — just the blindfold is disorienting enough, and let them stand closer. For tweens, add the comedy scoring so nobody feels bad about a bad placement. For adults, lean into the team relay and the glow round; the shouting is the entertainment. For mixed-age parties, pair each small child with an adult “guide” who walks with them to the wall.
