Halloween pumpkin pie eating contest printable with contestants covered in whipped cream

Halloween Pumpkin Pie Eating Contest Printable: Rules & Results Sheet

There is something deeply funny about watching a grown adult, hands behind their back, face-first in a pie tin full of whipped cream. A pumpkin pie eating contest is pure Halloween chaos in the best possible way, and it takes almost no setup. This printable gives you two versions: the hands-free whipped-cream pie heat with hidden candy pumpkins, and a classic pie-eating contest for the serious competitors. Pick one, or run both and crown two champions.

The Main Event: Hands-Free Whipped-Cream Pie Heats

Here’s the setup I swear by. Take a disposable pie tin for each player and fill it with whipped cream — the canned kind works great and holds its shape. Hide 5 candy pumpkins in each tin, pressed down into the cream so they’re not visible. Players stand at a table, hands behind their backs (or holding a belt loop, if you want to be strict about it), and on “go” they dive in face-first.

The goal: find all 5 candy pumpkins using only your mouth, and be the first to hold them all up — or just be the first to finish, depending on how you want to call it. I like the candy-pumpkin version because it gives everyone a clear finish line instead of a vague “who ate the most cream” argument.

Rules (Print These and Read Them Out Loud)

  1. Hands stay behind your back for the whole heat. Touching the tin, the table, or your own face with your hands means you’re out of that heat.
  2. Mouth only. You can nudge, scoop, and slurp with your mouth, but no hands, no utensils, no help from a teammate.
  3. Retrieve all 5 hidden candy pumpkins and hold them up to finish. The first player to show all 5 wins the heat.
  4. No shoving, no pushing another player’s tin, and no blocking. It’s messy, not a contact sport.
  5. If a player feels unwell or wants to stop, they stop. No pressure, no teasing, and they still get applause.
  6. The judge’s call is final. The judge watches hands, counts candy pumpkins, and calls the winner.

The Classic Variant: Real Pie Eating Contest

For the purists, run a classic version too. Each player gets a whole mini pumpkin pie (or a slice of a full pie if you’re feeding a crowd) and a fork — or no fork, if your crowd is brave. Fastest clean plate wins, timed by the judge. I’d run this one after the whipped-cream heats, because once someone’s face is covered in cream, they tend to be fully committed to the bit.

Set a time limit of 5 minutes per heat so it doesn’t drag. If nobody finishes, the player with the least pie left wins. Keep it friendly: this is a party game, not a professional eating competition, and nobody should eat past feeling comfortable.

Allergy Note and Cleanup Notes

Allergy note: Whipped cream contains dairy, candy pumpkins may contain milk, soy, or wheat depending on the brand, and pumpkin pie typically contains wheat, dairy, and eggs. Check the labels on the exact products you buy, tell players what’s in the tins before the heat starts, and offer a dairy-free whipped topping alternative for anyone who needs it. Anyone with an allergy should skip any tin they’re unsure about.

Cleanup notes: Lay a plastic tablecloth over the table and another one on the floor underneath — whipped cream travels. Keep a stack of towels and a pack of wet wipes at the end of the table for instant face cleanup, and have a trash bag ready for the used tins. Players will want a photo before they clean up, so let the cream faces have their moment. Run the heats outside if you can; your kitchen will thank you.

Running Order for the Night

  • Heat 1–3: Hands-free whipped-cream heats, 4 to 6 players each
  • Final: Winners of each heat face off for the championship tin
  • Classic round: Real mini pumpkin pies, fastest clean plate wins
  • Awards: “Cream Champion,” “Fastest Fork,” and “Best Cream Face” (voted by the crowd)

One Last Tip: Let Everyone Play

If you’ve got shy guests or little kids watching, run a bonus round just for them with smaller tins and fewer candy pumpkins to find. Everyone deserves a cream-covered photo, and the bonus round is usually the one people talk about on the way home. Keep the heats short, the music up, and the towels close, and this contest basically runs itself.
