Halloween Movie Night Bingo Printable: 30 Tropes + 2 Free Cards
Halloween Movie Night Bingo: 30 Tropes, 2 Ready-to-Print Cards, and Rules
Movie night bingo is the best thing to happen to horror marathons since popcorn. Instead of half the room scrolling their phones during the slow scenes, everyone’s watching for the next trope — the flickering lights, the “don’t go in there!” moment, the cat jumping out of nowhere. This page is your free printable: how to play, 30 movie tropes written out, and 2 ready-to-print bingo cards with different layouts. Print, press play, and shout BINGO.
Unlike single-movie bingo cards, these work with any horror or Halloween movie — that’s the whole point. One set of cards, endless movie nights.

How to Play Movie Night Bingo
What you need
- One printed bingo card per player (use the 2 cards below, or mix and match)
- Markers: candy corn, popcorn kernels, mini erasers, or wrapped candies
- A movie — any horror, thriller, or spooky film
Rules
- Everyone studies their card before the movie starts so they know what to watch for.
- When a trope happens on screen, mark it. The room can overrule a bad call by majority vote — this causes excellent arguments.
- First to complete a row, column, or diagonal shouts “BINGO!” Pause the movie, verify the squares, and award the prize.
- Keep playing after the first bingo for blackout (whole card) during long movies or double features.
House rule I recommend: the person who shouts bingo has to describe each marked moment (“the lights flickered at the abandoned house scene”) — it keeps everyone honest and it’s hilarious.
The 30 Horror-Movie Tropes (The Master List)
These are the squares. Every card below is built from this list.

- Lights flicker or go out completely
- A cat jumps out of nowhere
- Phone call from an unknown number
- Character trips while running
- Mirror shows something that isn’t there (or should be)
- Creepy music box or lullaby plays
- Someone investigates a strange noise alone
- Car won’t start at the critical moment
- Flashlight flickers or dies
- Character says “Hello? Is anyone there?”
- A door slams shut by itself
- Someone looks in the mirror and something’s behind them
- The group splits up (never a good idea)
- Creepy child sings or speaks
- TV/static shows something weird
- Character drops their keys/phone/flashlight
- Thunder and lightning at a dramatic moment
- Someone hides in a closet or under a bed
- A portrait’s eyes seem to follow someone
- Character reads from a forbidden book
- Candles blow out with no wind
- Someone walks backward into danger
- The “final girl/boy” picks up a weapon
- A pet senses something before humans do
- Character says “It’s probably nothing”

- Fog rolls in for no reason
- Someone’s reflection moves wrong

How to print the cards: copy a card block into a document, set a monospaced font (like Courier), print landscape. Or just read the tropes off the master list and have players write their own 5×5 grids — homemade cards take 5 minutes and everyone’s is different.
Marker Ideas (Ranked by Fun)
- Candy corn — the classic. Edible markers mean the card gets lighter as the movie goes on.
- Popcorn kernels — free and thematic.
- Gummy eyeballs — maximum gross-out points.
- Mini erasers — for the reusable-card crowd. Laminate the cards and use dry-erase markers.
Make It a Full Movie Night
- Double feature scoring: play one card per movie, most total bingos across both films wins the night.
- Trope draft: before the movie, each player picks 3 “bonus tropes” from the master list not on their card. If one hits, it’s worth 2 points.
- Loser picks next movie: the person with the fewest marked squares at the end chooses next week’s film. It keeps everyone watching to the credits.
- Intermission vote: at the halfway point, everyone predicts which trope will hit next. Correct predictions earn a bonus mark.
