Halloween Truth or Dare Printable: 40 Free Cards to Print & Play

Truth or dare is the game every party reaches eventually — usually around the time someone says “okay, what now?” and the candy bowl is half empty. The Halloween version is better than the regular one, because costumes, spooky stories, and sugar make everyone braver and funnier.

The trick is having the cards ready. Left to themselves, a group of kids will spend twenty minutes arguing about what the dare should be, and it always drifts toward something someone’s mom would veto. So I wrote the whole deck for you: 20 truths and 20 dares below, ready to print, cut, and play.

How to Play (2 Minutes of Setup)

  1. Print this article. Cut the truth cards and dare cards into strips.
  2. Fold each strip and drop truths into one bowl (or pumpkin bucket) and dares into another.
  3. Players sit in a circle. On your turn, pick: truth or dare — then draw from that bowl.
  4. Answer honestly or do the dare. No skipping unless the whole group agrees the card is unfair.

Card stock makes the cards sturdier, but regular printer paper works fine. My rule for mixed-age groups: the youngest player goes first, because it breaks the ice faster than anything.

Rules That Keep It Fun for Everyone

I’ve played this with kids, teens, and adults, and the game only works when everyone feels safe. Three house rules I always announce before the first card:

  • Anyone can pass, no questions asked. One free pass per player. After that, the group votes. Nobody should dread their turn.
  • Nothing mean, nothing scary-for-real. Dares should make people laugh, not cry. If a card would genuinely upset someone, toss it and draw again.
  • Keep it in the room. What people admit on truth cards stays at the party. Say it out loud at the start — it makes the truths way better.

For younger kids (under 8 or so), I pull out the handful of cards that need reading confidence and let them draw only from the dare bowl. They have more fun that way, and the older kids get a kick out of the performances.
